We're Only In It For The Money (1968)

The Mothers of Invention

8/3/25: I can honestly say I've never heard an album like this one before and really, it's as much of a political statement as it is an album. I've been listening to a lot of stuff recently that was made in reaction to the hippie movement of the 1960s, effectively learning that flower power was not for everyone. This album is gnarly (positive). It plays with audio in a very engrossing way, and generally kept me locked in throughout the run time. Not to sound like That Guy, but I really wish more artists were still making music like this. It was so unapologetic in it's message and that's also reflected in the overall sound. I'm not sure how often I'll return to this album, but I do think it was a strong piece of political art.
