He Is It and She Is It and It Is It and That Is That (2008)

Marnie Stern

7/30/25: Huge thank you to UC Irvine college radio for introducing me to this album. They played a song from it while I was driving through the area and I was immediately entranced. Marnie Stern is truly something else. Her skills as a guitarist are next level, and definitely shaped the album, but that doesn't even take her artistic vision and ability to execute into account. This album is reminscent of Fiona Apple to me, with notes of a Girlpool-esque (I'd bet that Marnie was a big inspiration to them), almost Riot Grrrl sound. Ever since I first heard it, I have not stopped listening to this one and think it will join my all time favorites list. Marnie does so much within the boundaries of this experimental, indie album that it feels like they're not even there for most of the time. ART!
