Pearl (1971) — Janis Joplin

FIRE!!!! I loved this one, which is kinda funny considering I was not a fan when I first listened a few years ago. I remember thinking it was a bit one-note, but guess what? I was wrong. So very wrong.

Taking nothing else into account, Janis' vocals alone are enough to carry the album. She's the epitome of a once-in-a-generation talent. Then, when you consider the strong production and soul infused deep within each song, this album becomes otherworldly.

I think I could listen to this album forever. Somehow, the rasp and harshness of Janis' voice don't prevent the warm, inviting qualities from flourishing as well. She was a singular talent, and every song on this album is a testament to that.
