Getting Killed (2025) — Geese
Posted 9/30/25Thank god for Geese! This album is living proof that rock is not dead. In fact, rock has been given a new life in this album. This isn't an immitation of rock, but a brand new iteration of it. When Cameron Winter's incomparable vocals meet with the unreal production of Kenneth Blume (FKA Kenny Beats) and the musical cohesian Geese does so well, a masterpiece is born.
There's an almost glam rock quality to this album that feels like a window into what that genre could've looked like today if it had lasted longer. The lyrics are existential and sharp, but listening to this I couldn't help but feel okay. It's kinda like the lyrics punch you and the music gives you an ice pack and kiss on the cheek after.
That's not to say the music is mellow or peaceful, quite the opposite actually, but the aforementioned cohesian of the members results in a tight sound that still evokes the sound of jam bands.
This is definitely my favorite release of this year so far, and will almost definitely stay in that top spot. This album didn't just affect me musically and emotionally, it gave me a rejuvinated sense of hope for the future of rock music.
