Future Days (1973) — Can

This was my first time listening to Can and also my introduction to Krautrock, a German strain of experimental rock often called “cosmic music.” Cosmic is exactly right. With just four tracks across forty-one minutes, it plays like a single flowing piece, an album you really sit with front-to-back.

It’s more a suite of soundscapes than a set of songs: constantly shifting yet strangely cohesive. The production is wild for 1973 and totally worth headphones. It’s a wonderful, weird, and complex work that feels perfect for a spaceship.
